Slide Cloud
Offsite DR
💻 Slide Agent
What it is: Software installed on each system requiring protection (servers, workstations)
Primary function: Creates point-in-time backup snapshots using Windows VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service)
Key Behaviors:
- Automatically updates itself
- Maintains connections to both its paired Slide Box AND Slide Cloud
- Runs scheduled backups at configurable intervals (30 min to 6 hours, default: hourly)
- Tracks backup history (last 10 attempts visible)
📦 Slide Box (Device)
What it is: A physical or virtual appliance that receives and stores backup data locally
Hardware models: B1 (vertical tabs) and R1/Razer (horizontal tabs)
Primary function: Local backup storage with fast restore capabilities
Key Behaviors:
- Receives backup data from paired Agents
- Replicates all successful backups to Slide Cloud
- Hosts local virtualization for instant recovery
- Manages concurrent backup limits (Z1: 4, R1: 6, B1: 8 simultaneous)
- Triggers capacity alerts at 80% (warning) and 90% (critical)
☁️ Slide Cloud
What it is: Centralized cloud infrastructure for coordination and offsite disaster recovery
Primary function: Manages all Boxes and Agents, provides cloud-based restoration
Key Behaviors:
- Coordinates the entire backup ecosystem
- Stores replicated backup data for DR scenarios
- Enables cloud-based virtualization when local Box is unavailable
- Manages retention policies and snapshot lifecycle
Data Flow 🔄
The backup process flows from Agent → Box → Cloud:
- Agent creates a snapshot using Windows VSS
- Backup data is transferred to the Box (local storage)
- Box verifies the backup integrity
- Successful backups are automatically replicated to Cloud
- Cloud coordinates retention policies and provides offsite DR
